Simple-to-use strategies given in this ebook should enable the reader to correctly answer many more Multiple Choice Questions in JEE (M) 2022 than was possible using conventional methods. Therefore the readers practisng these new methods can achieve a significant boost in their total score and rank in JEE (M). They can easily verify it in their Mock Tests. These strategies are based on the infallible laws of statistics and their own power of intuition. The use of intelligent intuition, which draws upon the huge latent treasure of knowledge in one’s subconscious, is recommended to enhance the score and the rank. Prof. Pradhan, the top guru in the field of science education in India, in his Foreword of this book and other celebrities have commended these tips, as quoted below. Somehow till now, most of these secrets are neither taught in coaching institutes/colleges nor included in other available guide books.
"Ashok Gupta has studied the present policy of NTA for JEE (M) and visualized the challenges faced by the examinees during this test and very poor scores in general. In this book, he has suggested some strategies which may easily and significantly increase their total scores by correctly answering more questions. This will particularly help the lower 98 % of the aspirants who score less than 50 % of the total marks...The suggested use of our latent powers of intuition and prioritization may also be useful in many other daily actions and decisions.
"In addition to comprehensive and useful information on JEE (Main) at one place for the candidates, their parents, and teachers, this book also contains some valuable unconventional guidance for candidates who plan to take the JEE (Mains) Paper -1 and/or Paper – 2A and/or Paper-2B test/s. The author has explained a new simple method backed by probability theory of statistics, for enhancing the total score. I hope that the readers will derive full benefits for maximizing their total score in JEE (Mains).

JEE (Mains) is known as one of the world’s toughest entrance tests to crack. Out of more than one million aspirants taking JEE (M) every year, more than 98 % are not able to score even half the total marks. This is true for both, the Paper – 1 and Paper - 2. Given that the syllabus for JEE (M) is quite well defined and is the same as the CBSE’s syllabus for Class XII, and only well above average students of Class XII appear for JEE (M), the poor total scores are difficult to explain. Nearly half of the aspirants take 1 to 2 years’ special coaching for preparing for JEE (M). The author has analyzed this dichotomy and has come up with some unconventional but simple-to-follow strategies during the actual test which will enable candidates to maximize their score.
He provides for these strategies a detailed explanation based on intuition drawn from the rich treasure of information in our subconscious and the infallible laws of statistics. These new strategies may indeed increase the number of correctly answered questions by candidates resulting in a significant addition to their marks and improvement in their ranks at JEE (M).
Dr. Gupta, a distinguished energy technologist, has now, after years of an active R & D career, passionately devoted himself to the cause of science popularization and science education. His passion has driven him to the present study. I sincerely hope and wish that this book will convince the readers about the practical value of the ‘unconventional’ suggestions in the book and they will derive the full benefit of the suggestions for maximizing their total score in JEE (M).

SOME EXCERPTS FROM THIS BOOK
NTA has now added three more tiebreakers (proportion negative to positive marks in P, C & M) to resolve ties between same total percentile NTA scores of more than one aspirant. It will not reduce the huge benefit from intelligent intuitive answering of tough MCQs. Even a few extra marks will raise the AIR by thousands of ranks whereas, the benefit due to lower ratio of negative to positive responses may result in the reduction of only a few ranks.
Pl see frequently the Info Bulletin on www.jeemain.nta.nic.in for latest instructions.
The application for registration for every session opens 2-5 weeks before the date of these tests.
A great time saver tip
The aspirant must promptly put every question soon after it is opened and read into one of the two categories – 1st (easy and short) or 2nd (tough and lengthy). THE INTELLIGENT INTUITION-BASED ANSWERING SUGGESTED IN THIS BOOK will be applicable to the 2nd category MCQs.
Please see the latest Information Bulletin on NTA’s websites www.nta.ac.in; www.nta.nic.in or www.jeemain.nta.nic.in. NTA is continuously upgrading these examinations to improve the selection process. Therefore, candidates are advised to keep visiting the NTA’s website regularly for any latest updates and to check their registered mobile for SMS/e-mails.
One must REMEMBER the critical importance of speed for answering a maximum number of questions in JEE (Main) for best AIR. Therefore, we advise that all 2nd category numerical questions must be promptly passed.
Conclusion:- The above main changes introduced by NTA for JEE (Main) - 2022 onwards do not reduce the benefits of the new strategies suggested in this book. All aspirants can easily apply these strategies for maximizing their scores. Suitable minor adjustments on account of changes in the number of MCQs may be easily estimated in the examples given in this book for showing the benefits of using the intuitive mode of answering. The aspirant can save time in disposing of the new numerical questions (without any answer options) quickly. Either these will fall in the 1st category and answered promptly using manual calculations. OR these will be found to be tough.
This is a 3 hours paper having 25 questions of each of the three subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Maths called the three sections. The total score is the sum of net marks scored in all three subjects.
The actual (raw) subject wise and total scores are normalized on percentile basis for all aspirants appearing in every shift of every day and percentile wise lists are drawn for all sessions. These are called ‘NTA Scores’. When an aspirant appears in more than one session, the highest total scores of the two sessions is considered for determining his AIR. Total NTA percentile Scores, along with the 9 tiebreakers (if required) are used for determining the overall (Common Rank List or CRL) and Reserved Category wise All India Ranking (AIR) lists. Only top most ~ 2.5 lac aspirants are allowed to appear in the JEE (Adv.) test, the results of which are used for allocation of ~ 13,600 seats in all the 23 IITs. The JEE (M)’s AIR for these top 2.5 lac aspirants is used for allocation of ~ 33,000 seats in the other 77 topmost Centrally Funded Tech. Institutes (CFTIs) in India. The new NTA percentile score system has seven decimal digits. Therefore, the number of students with the same percentile scores is very small. Hence, the impact of tie-breaking for ascribing a unique AIR to each aspirant is now very much reduced. Separate AIR lists are also made for each reserved category. For admission to 100 top colleges (IITs/ NITs/ IIITs and other CFTIs), there is one more prerequisite in addition to the AIR in JEE Main. These aspirants should have scored at least 75% aggregate marks in their class 12 exam conducted by the respective board. For SC/ST candidates, these qualifying marks are 65% marks.
The above shows the importance of the highest possible total marks as the principal goal in JEE (M). If unavoidable due to paucity of time or otherwise, one may skip some topics of some subjects. One more mark in the total score can improve one’s AIR by over a thousand ranks above others having one mark less. It is better to strengthen selected topics of your favorite subject/s. This strategy is good enough to cross the cut-off for admission to good colleges in the General Category. This is borne out of the actual results of JEE (M) in the past few years.
The level of difficulty of all 25 (20 MCQs plus 5 numerical questions) for each of the three subjects in a given shift/paper may vary. The idea is to give a broad mix of topics and difficulty levels to test the depth of the understanding of the aspirant. Generally, the difficulty level is moderate to hard. However, these are all within the NCERT/CBSE syllabus for 11th and 12th std. Therefore, the aspirant need not study and prepare for questions beyond this syllabus for JEE Main. Almost all questions (in Physics and Maths and also in Chemistry) are numerical and need manual calculations using the rough paper sheets given in the test. A few MCQs (in physics and chemistry each) maybe even oral type, which needs only some thinking and may not require pen-n-paper type manual calculations. These need a good clarity of the underlying concepts. Even without reading all the answer options, the correct answer flashes in your mind. Other MCQs need the use of the applicable memorized formula, filling the values of the parameters given in the question and manually calculating the correct memorized answer. Questions may often be lengthy, taking more than 2.4 minutes per question on average. Only 2.4 minutes are available to you on an average per question (at the rate of 75 Qs in 180 minutes). As confirmed by the JEE (M) results, for 99.9 % of the aspirants, who are the cream of the 12th std Boards and above-average student, it is not possible to attempt and correctly solve all 75 Qs in 180 minutes, even if they know how to solve all questions in 3 hours. Therefore, one cannot overemphasize the importance of time management during the test duration.
A complete discussion of this strategy and many tips are given in chapters 4 and 6 (Appendix).
Sec 2.8
Marks Distribution Among all Students (Bell Curve)
Following unexpected facts of JEE M (2018) were found to be generally applicable for JEE Main tests. These were:
· Approx. 14,000 aspirants had the same total marks around 25/360 marks (Before adoption of the percentiles).
· Nearly 93% out of the ~11 lac students scored less than 100/360 marks.
· Therefore, all students using the tips of this book may score many more extra marks out of tough MCQs.
· The number of aspirants succeeding (i.e., achieving a total score above the cut-off marks) with self-study and those who register with some coaching was nearly equal. Even online coaching wastes a lot of precious time.
· Preparing the topics of high importance well is better for cracking JEE M, rather than the entire syllabus.
· Just four more marks (i.e., only one more correct tick in 60 MCQs) may push you up by > 40,000 ranks around the maximum of the Histogram. So high is the importance attached to each correct answer. This fact about the JEE (M) demands that one must take utmost care in how s/he uses every minute of those most crucial 180 minutes of her/his JEE(M) entrance test. 75 questions for 300 marks are to be solved in 180 minutes for JEE (M). This means that each minute in the test has a potential value of ~ 1.7 marks on an average.
· Many students were not even able to open all the unanswered questions. It happens due to a severe lack of time. Some of the questions attempted consumed too much time, leaving no time to open/answer some easy questions.
· Tough and lengthy Qs take a lot of time leave no time for easy Qs.
· There are no bonus marks for tough or hard Qs. All carry the same 4 marks.

Sec 3.2
The fear of negative marks for any wrong answer is playing heavily on their psychology. Behavioural Economics has a general rule that the human mind is more averse to a small loss than taking a small risk for a much bigger gain. Therefore, the present policy of negative marks for wrong answers is serving its purpose well. Many smart students are unknowingly using their intuition and reaping a bonanza out of the tough MCQs. To give a level playing field to the readers of this book, we are explaining this secret in this book.
…., time management and speed are the essences of this test. Towards the end of the test, almost all aspirants wish if they had more time.
….Suppose the average time you take to answer one question (of an average level of difficulty) is 3.6 minutes. Therefore, in three hours, you can solve only 180/3.6 = 50 questions, even IF there were more than 50 questions within your ability to solve! The remaining 25 questions become irrelevant for you due to lack of time. However, you may also spend a lot of time scanning through many more questions to ‘discover’ the ‘doable’ 50 questions out of the 60 MCQs. The strategy presented below solves both these issues
·
This book is particularly for those aspirants out of the > 10 lac, who are trying to get admission in the top ~107 govt funded engg. colleges offering ~47,000 seats based on All India Ranking (AIR) of NTA in the JEE (M) (section1.4). Remember that the 47,000th Rank is of the rank of the last aspirant of the topmost ~3.9 % of 11 lac aspirants, as observed in the last few years. Now many more reputed private and state govt engg colleges also consider the JEE Main AIR for admissions. For winning in this tough competition, in addition to the serious and long preparation for many years, smart strategies given in this book are also equally valuable to reach the topmost 3.9% positions.
Sec 3.3.5…… mock test practice is most useful to learn the methodology for solving a maximum number of questions in 180 minutes. It is achieved by practising how to answer a maximum number of Easy questions and tough MCQs, as they appear.
· We are suggesting the use of her/his intelligent intuition to answer only the tough MCQs.
It is now believed (see several references of recent R&D in the field of psychology at Universities in Australia, UK, and China in Appendix 6.1) that human intuition can yield valuable insight through complex processes in our subconscious mind for decision making.
……… To summarize the above, we achieve the following three significant advantages with this new strategy:
§ Save > 25 minutes, otherwise wasted in a blank scanning run.
§ Increase the probability of answering all/most easy and short 1st category questions with better time management.
§ Get a significant positive contribution to the total score from the tough MCQs using intelligent intuition.
…….why scoring one more mark in the total is far more important than to worry about the 4 out of 9 new criteria of lesser negative responses adopted in 2022 onwards for breaking a tie between thousands of aspirants, all having the same total score? Even one more mark in the total may put an aspirant ahead of several thousand fellow aspirants’ AIR. The tie-breaking advantage can move her/him up, within the same total marks group, by just a few ranks……….)
· … Important chapters and books of the three subjects are listed in this book.
The bell curve of section 2.8 shows that correctly answering even 25 questions out of 75 questions may bring you within the cutoff for the general category for eligibility for admission to good govt. funded engineering colleges. You may easily confirm the increase in your total marks based on your performance in realistic mock tests.
Summary
Under the present policy followed in the JEE (M), it is expected that almost all aspirants may benefit by using their intuitive faculty for answering all (or as many as possible) tough MCQs.
Each of the above Smart Strategies (and many more tips) are explained in this book. These smart strategies will enable each aspirant:
The above procedure and action plan during the final test will make the best use of all the given resources (time and information), for scoring maximum total marks and the best possible AIR in JEE (M).
Let us compare two aspirants A and B of JEE (M), both with similar intelligence and levels of preparation. They even got similar marks in their 12th board exams. But their total percentile scores (and therefore AIRs) were very different in the JEE (M). How does one explain this? Is it because of their different “luck” or the difference between the Paper sets given to them?
It is not related to either. The second aspect is taken care of with the normalization process (percentiles in place of the raw total marks). Their different results are most likely due to the different strategies followed by A and B during the test. A promptly solved all the easy questions found in the 75 questions and answered the tough MCQs using his intuition. B, however, struggled with many tough and lengthy questions and solved those at the expense of a large number of easy and short questions, which B could not even open before the end of the test. Also, due to the immense pressure of time in the second half of the test, he made many silly calculation mistakes. B had not taken many realistic (timed) mock tests to learn the required time management, which is very essential for success in JEE (M).
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift”- Albert Einstein. He got an ‘intuitive flash’ of the Theory of Relativity years before he could put it logically to convince the scientific community. We all are born with a great power of intuition but our modern culture has suppressed it. Using their intuition, all other life forms sense any invisible imminent danger to their survival and fend against it.
Analyzing the results of JEE (M) of the last few years, we have presented some lesser-known but important facts about JEE Main. These are:
· Almost 98 % aspirants of JEE (M) do not correctly answer more than 50 % of the total questions.
· More than 99.4 % of all aspirants, including some of the most brilliant minds among more than one million aspirants, do not correctly answer more than ~ 58 % of questions out of all questions.
· Most aspirants leave a large number of questions unanswered and/or even un-visited.
· The principal reason for the above is the lack of sufficient time in the design of the test and poor time management on the part of the aspirants.
Based on the above key observations, this book has suggested the following strategies for enhancing the total score for almost all aspirants:
Many strategies and tips given in this book are difficult to understand and accept since these appear to be against common sense and our conventional wisdom. The theory behind our tips and facts are explained by examples and actual workings in this book to convince the reader about their correctness. The reader is advised to see by himself the great increase in the total score in his mock tests – with and without using the tips, do’s and don’ts given in this book.
The above strategies are explained in detail in this book, to enable the aspirant to:
o Open and answer all/maximum number of questions, using an easy to follow a dynamic feedback system for time management.
o Avoid missing any ‘low hanging fruits’

Excerpts from some other Chapters of this this ebook are given in this section
1. During the preparation and particularly during the three hrs final test, JEE Main test is a race against time.
2. Your ability to answer as many questions (within your capability) as possible in 3 hrs is more important than ‘memorizing all theory and formulas to solve all questions’, which is not the only prerequisite. Your score depends only on your correct clicks, not on your talent to solve some hard questions.
3. For most aspirants, it may be sufficient to answer correctly < 40 questions out of 75 to secure a seat in an IIT. Mr. Anand Kumar, the famous mentor of ‘Super 30’ movie (2019), rightly says, “Scoring 35 % marks in JEE (M) and JEE (A) are sufficient to secure a seat in an IIT”. However, only <1% out of >10 lac students appearing in JEE M every year achieve this. Therefore, each aspirant should draw her/his own plan according to her/his own capability, the time available to her/him for the preparation and during the test, and a realistic goal. Hard work alone, disregarding these facts, is not an ideal or the smart strategy.
4. One of the most significant new strategies advised in this book is the use of your Intelligent Intuition for answering difficult and/or lengthy MCQs. Most of the students leave all such MCQs unanswered due to the fear of negative marks. It is shown that this strategy may yield a large net gain in the total score. The SECRET behind this revolutionary concept is disclosed to the aspirants of JEE Main test for the first time. It brings them all on a level playing field.
5. The theory of probability is already built into the JEE M system. There are 4 sets of papers in every shift. There are ~10 shifts in each of the two Sessions. An elaborate system of normalization process across all papers and all shifts is used by NTA using a percentile system. This system is based on a sound theory which ensures a reliable and fairly accurate relative evaluation of most of the students.
8. Official reports analyzing the answering pattern of the JEE aspirants show that only a very few are able to even visit all 75 (earlier 90) questions.
9. Smart work during the preparation & test is far more rewarding than hard work, learning, and practicing full CBSE syllabus. Therefore, remember using the right strategy and planning in addition to hard work. Stephen Covey, in his all-time best-seller “Seven Habits of Successful People”, says in the chapter ‘Sharpen Your Saw’ that improving the efficiency is much more effective than mere hard work.
10. The JEE M is NO place to display your genius in cracking hard or lengthy questions. All 75 questions each carry the same +4 marks, irrespective of their level of difficulty. It will be foolish to waste more time on any difficult question/s AT A HUGE COST OF TIME. That additional time CAN EARN MANY MORE MARKS IN SOLVING MANY EASY QUESTIONS, which you may not even be able to visit due to your poor time management.
10. NTA plans to soon have a bank of one million questions for JEE Main and may not repeat any question form any of the previous years. Therefore, do not worry if most questions look unfamiliar. Just deepen your understanding of the basics in selected IMPORTANT chapters of the three subjects in which you are already strong. This will enable you to solve ‘new’ questions with confidence. DO NOT go deeper than the NCERT books for CBSE syllabus, as NTA claims that all questions of JEE M will be ONLY from this syllabus. You will have time for the frontiers of science and maths after your graduation. Now you must be 100 % focused on your goal of scoring as many marks as possible in JEE M.
11. The syllabus of P, C, and M is quite vast. Requisite mastery of all topics is extremely challenging for rationally solving all 75 questions of JEE M in three hours. Trying to crack any tricky question/s from your weak (or skipped) chapters is meaningless. Therefore, strengthen further your select topics moderately, till you can solve the mock test questions of those topics. This may enable you to correctly answer requisite number of question from your favorite topics for crossing the cutoff of JEE Main.
The above are some examples of the tips and smart strategies one needs to follow to score maximum possible score for any given level of preparedness. These new and unconventional tips are explained with examples in this new book available from amazon, India.
